A LEED Platinum residence on an organic farm, with an emphasis on locally sourced construction materials.
This single-family residence on a small organic farm consists of a 5,000 sf main house, in addition to several outbuildings, including a guest cabin, yoga studio, and a barn, that together comprise roughly 2,800 sf of enclosed space. The structures combine colored, striated rammed-earth and wood-frame construction, with exposed elements that highlight the structural materials. The project is a net energy exporter and includes comprehensive rainwater and graywater harvesting; it is also a pilot project in the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES™). Tipping’s approach includes a critical evaluation of construction methods and materials to optimize resource use and environmental impact.
